The 1898 Women's Carnival

Part of the foreword to the 1898 program.
The Women's Educational and Industrial Union was
formed in San Francisco in 1889. Its members have succeeded in helping
thousands of deserving women to help themselves.
They have encouraged many and given protection where it was
sorely needed.
About a year ago the Union removed to 7 Van Ness Avenue. Their home
is roomy and pleasant. Still it does not afford the facilities for work
that is needed.
The rent has to be paid each month">

I don't know what happened to the WEIU, but it is gratifying to
be know that San Francisco women were in the forefront one hundred years
ago in helping others.... just as they are today.
